Darin Young made his return to the top of the Championship Darts Circuit rankings following a superb win in Burlington, Ontario as ‘Big Daddy’ took Main Event six – the Condor Zero Stress Open on Sunday evening.
There seems to be a pattern emerging between Young and Leonard Gates as Gates won Main Event 5. Prior to this weekend, Young & Gates shared the spoils in Ohio.
In the final, Young faced a surprised newcomer in Canada’s Matt Campbell who came through the event as a qualifier in what was a superb showing from the local player. Campbell fired in 13 maximums en route to the final as he defeated a host of established players within the CDC.
In the final, Campbell managed to open up a 4-2 lead as he looked to win his first ever CDC final, but Young’s experience showed as he moved 5-4 up as he won three legs in succession. But, Campbell managed to force a decider. The match was decided in terrific circumstance as Young pummelled in a stunning 127 finish to take the title to return to the top of the Tour leaderboard.
On his way to the final, Young amazingly dropped just two legs as he seen off the likes of Jason Rilloraza 5-0 (93.9), Neil Quenon 5-0 (80.8), Timmy Nicoll 6-2 (82.5) and a superb 6-0 victory over Jim Long which no-one expected as Young averaged a respectable 91.1.
