Mickey Mansell left the Barnsley Metrodome on Sunday evening a delighted man as he claimed his first PDC ranking title as the Northern Ireland ace won Players Championship 8.
Mansell was solid throughout the event, prior to the final, no player had taken more than three legs off the Irish star. Following Mansell’s victory, he becomes the 70th different player to win a Players Championship event.
Mansell kicked off the day in some style as he enjoyed a 6-0 demolition of the talented Belgian Kim Huybrechts, he then enjoyed victories over Gary Eastwood (6-0), Alan Norris (6-1), Robert Thornton (6-0), Gerwyn Price (6-3) & Josh Payne (6-3).
After coming through such a strong field, Mansell held his nerve to complete a great victory over Adrian Lewis. Mansell was lethal on D20, as a missed dart at the bull was the only attempt at a double that he had missed. It just highlights the strength in depth that the Professional Darts Corporation possesses.
