Well, what a night it was at the fourth annual staging of the Keighley Darts Masters at the Victoria Hall. The event was hosted by MJK Sports Events and I must say it was a very well run event, they’re very professional about how they run their events.
Dave Chisnall successfully defended his title from 12 months previously, but he didn’t have it easy as he came up against the ‘Rockstar’ Joe Cullen & the two-time World Championship the ‘Flying Scotsman’ Gary Anderson. The St Helens ace who resides in Morecambe had to produce some breathtaking stuff to defend his title.
The highlight was without any doubt his victory over Gary Anderson in their round-robin encounter. Chisnall fired in finishes of 126 & 146 in the opening two legs, and as he moved into a 4-0 lead he was averaging over 122 as he had the fully-packed Victoria Hall on their feet. Anderson battled back as he provided a trio of 14-dart legs as he reduced the deficit to 4-3.
‘Chizzy’ sealed the deal with a superb 13-darter, and in doing so he booked his place in the final against the ‘Flying Scotsman’. The averages following that particular match were quite sensational as both players averaged in excess of 108.
Earlier on in the evening, Gary Anderson completed a convincing 5-1 victory over the ‘Rockstar’ Joe Cullen. Anderson put in quite a display as he averaged 103.54 in the victory. Cullen did draw level at one-a-piece as he pulled out a 17-darter, but it took Anderson just 53 darts to reel off four legs on-the-spin. (11, 14, 14, 14)
In the second match of the evening, Cullen returned to the stage as he faced Dave Chisnall. It was a highly-contested battle on the Keighley stage, but it was the Bradford-based ace Cullen who was victorious in a 5-4 win. But, as Chisnall defeated Anderson in his second match of the evening, that secured Chisnall’s place in the final with Gary Anderson.
Much like their previous encounter, it was a terrific battle, Anderson took an early lead in the final as he produced a 15-dart leg, but Chisnall reeled off four successive legs as he moved into a 4-1 lead. From then on in, it was an uphill task for the Scot. Anderson did pull out another level 15-darter, but it was in vain as Chisnall went on a three-leg rampage as he moved 7-2 clear. The defending champion sealed the Keighley Darts Masters title with a delightful bullseye finish – much to the delight of the capacity crowd at the Victoria Hall.

Prior to the event getting underway, the fully-packed Victoria Hall showed their respects to the late Eric Bristow, who sadly passed away just 24 hours before the event.
